Maintenance

Explanation of Scheduled Maintenance Items

~3min read

Engine Oil and Filter

Engine oil and filter must be replaced at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter changes are necessary.

Seat Belts

Inspect all drive belts for cuts, cracks, excessive wear, or oil saturation, and replace as necessary. Drive belts should be periodically checked for proper tension and adjusted as necessary.

Fuel filter

A clogged filter may restrict the speed at which the vehicle can operate, damage the exhaust system, and cause a variety of problems such as hard starting. If excessive foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may need to be replaced more often. After installing a new filter, run the engine for several minutes and check the connections for leaks. Fuel filters must be installed by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses, and Connections

Inspect fuel lines, fuel hoses, and connections for leaks and damage. Have an authorized HYUNDAI dealer replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately.

Vapor Hose and Fuel Tank Cap

The vapor hose and fuel tank cap should be inspected at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. Make sure a new vapor hose or fuel tank cap is installed correctly when replaced.

Air Cleaner Filter

An genuine HYUNDAI air cleaner filter is recommended when replacing the filter.

Spark Plugs

Be sure to install new spark plugs of the correct heat range.

Valve Clearance (Lambda Engine)

Check for excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if necessary. Have an authorized HYUNDAI dealer perform the operation.

Cooling System

Inspect cooling system components such as the radiator, coolant reservoir, hoses, and connections for leaks and damage. Replace any damaged parts.

Engine Coolant

Engine coolant should be replaced at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Schedule.

Automatic Transmission Fluid

Automatic transmission fluid does not need to be checked under normal operating conditions. However, under severe conditions, the fluid must be changed by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer at the intervals specified in the scheduled maintenance chart at the beginning of this chapter.

✽ NOTICE

Automatic transmission fluid is normally red in color. As the vehicle is driven, the automatic transmission fluid will begin to look darker. This is a normal condition and you should not judge whether the fluid needs to be replaced based on its changed color.

CAUTION

Use of an unspecified fluid may result in transmission malfunction and damage. Use only the specified automatic transmission fluid (see "Recommended Lubricants and Capacities" in Chapter 8).

Brake Hoses and Lines

Visually inspect for proper installation, wear, cracks, deterioration, and any leakage. Replace any damaged or worn parts immediately.

Brake fluid

Check the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. The level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only hydraulic brake fluid meeting DOT 3 or DOT 4 specification.

Parking Brake

Inspect the parking brake system, including the parking brake pedal and cables.

Brake Pads, Discs, Calipers and Rotors

Check the pads for excessive wear, the discs for runout and wear, and the calipers for fluid leakage.

Exhaust Pipe and Muffler

Visually inspect the exhaust pipes, mufflers and hangers for cracks, wear or damage. Start the engine and listen carefully for exhaust leaks. Tighten connections or replace parts as necessary.

Suspension Mounting Bolts

Check the suspension connections for looseness or damage. Tighten to the specified torque.

Steering Gear Box, Linkage and Lower Arm Boots/Ball Joint

With the vehicle stopped and the engine off, check for excessive play in the steering wheel. Check connections for bends or damage. Check boots and ball joints for wear, cracks or damage. Replace any damaged parts.

Drive Shafts and Boots

Check the drive shafts, boots and clamps for cracks, wear or damage. Replace any damaged parts and, if necessary, repack grease.

Air Conditioning Refrigerant

Check the air conditioning lines and connections for leaks and damage.
