Blade Inspection

Contamination of the windshield or wiper blades with foreign substances may reduce wiper performance. Common sources of contamination are insects, tree sap, and hot wax treatments used by some commercial car washes. If the blades do not wipe properly, clean both the windows and the blades with a clean cloth dampened with washer fluid.

CAUTION

To avoid damaging the wiper blades, arms, or other components, do not:

  • Use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near them.
  • Attempt to move the wipers by hand.
  • Use wiper blades other than those specified.

✽ NOTICE

Commercial hot waxes applied at automatic car washes are known to make the windshield difficult to clean.

Blade Replacement

When the wipers no longer clean adequately, the blades may be worn or cracked and must be replaced.

CAUTION

To avoid damaging the wiper arms or other components, do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.

CAUTION

Using a wiper blade other than the specified type may cause malfunction and damage to the wipers.

Front Windshield Wiper Blade

For your convenience, move the wiper blades to the service position as follows:

After turning the engine off, move the wiper switch to the single wipe (MIST) position within 20 seconds and hold the switch for more than 2 seconds until the wiper blade is in the fully raised position.

CAUTION

Do not let the wiper arm drop onto the windshield, as it may chip or crack the windshield.

1. Raise the wiper arm.

2. Turn the wiper blade clip. Then lift the blade clip.

3. Press the clip (1) and lift the wiper arm (2).

4. Press the wiper arm (3) and install the new blade assembly in the reverse order of removal.

5. Return the wiper arm to the windshield.

6. Turn the ignition to the ON position. The wiper arms will return to their normal operating position.
