SRS Control Module (SRSCM) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The main purpose of the SRSCM (Supplemental Restraint System Control Module) is to distinguish between events that require restraint system deployment and events that do not. The SRSCM must decide whether to use the restraint system or not. After determining that pretensioner and/or airbag deployment is required, the SRSCM must supply sufficient power to the pretensioners and airbag initiators to trigger deployment. The SRSCM determines that an impact may require pretensioner and airbag deployment based on data received from the impact sensors and other components in combination with the safety function. The SRSCM will not be ready to detect a malfunction or activate restraint system devices until the signals in the SRSCM circuit have stabilized. The SRSCM may activate the restraint devices in approximately 2 seconds, but full function is guaranteed only after confirmation is complete. The SRSCM must perform the diagnostic procedure and illuminate the system ready indicator when the ignition switch is in the ON position. The system must perform a continuous diagnostic procedure and report a malfunction with the warning lamp when a malfunction is detected. The serial diagnostic communication interface will be used to facilitate maintenance of the restraint system control module.
