What to expect after airbag deployment?
After a frontal or side impact, the airbag inflates and deflates rapidly. Airbag inflation does not prevent the driver from seeing through the windshield or from being able to drive. Curtain airbags may remain partially inflated for some time after deployment.
WARNING After deployment, take the following precautions: - Open the windows and doors as soon as possible after the impact to reduce prolonged exposure to the smoke and dust released by the deployed airbag. - Do not touch the internal components of the airbag housing after deployment. Parts that come into contact with the deployed airbag may be very hot. - Always wash exposed skin areas with lukewarm water and mild soap. - Airbags can be used only once. - It is recommended to have the airbag replaced immediately after use by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.Noise and smoke from airbag deployment
When the airbag deploys, it makes a loud noise and releases smoke and dust into the air inside the vehicle. This is the normal result of the airbag's gas generator igniting.
After deployment, you may have difficulty breathing, due to chest contact with the seat belt and airbag and inhalation of dust and smoke. Dust may aggravate asthma in some people. If breathing problems occur after airbag deployment, see a doctor immediately.
Although the smoke and dust are not toxic, they can cause skin irritation (eyes, nose and throat, etc.). In this case, wash and rinse immediately with cold water and consult a doctor if the symptom persists.
