Fuses

~3min read

The vehicle's electrical system is protected from damage caused by electrical overload by fuses.

This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one of which is located in the driver's side kick panel and the others in the engine compartment.

If a light, accessory or control in your vehicle does not work, check the fuse of the corresponding circuit.

When a fuse blows, the element inside melts.

If the electrical system does not work, first check the fuses in the fuse panel on the driver's side kick panel.

Always replace a blown fuse with a fuse of the same rating. If the replacement fuse blows repeatedly, this indicates an electrical problem. Avoid using the affected system and contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Three types of fuses are used: low-current cartridge fuses, cartridge fuses and self-resetting current fuses.

WARNING

Fuse Replacement

  • Always replace a blown fuse only with a fuse of the same rating.
  • Using a fuse with a higher rating may cause damage to the system and start a fire.
  • Never replace a fuse with wire or aluminum foil, even as a temporary repair. This may cause serious damage to the wiring and a fire.

NOTICE

Do not use a screwdriver or other metal object to remove fuses, as this may cause a short circuit and damage the system.

Intelligent

The actual label on the fuse/relay panel may differ from the installed components.

WARNING

  • When replacing a faulty fuse or relay, make sure the new fuse or relay is firmly seated. An improperly installed fuse or relay may damage the wiring and electrical systems of the vehicle and cause a fire.
  • Do not remove fuses, terminals or relays secured with screws or nuts. They may be poorly secured and present a fire hazard. If a fuse, terminal or relay secured with screws or nuts is faulty, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Insert only fuses or relays into the connectors provided for fuses or relays, otherwise poor contact may occur and cause a system malfunction.
  • If some lamps (headlights, front fog lights, rear fog lights, tail lights, stop lights and DRL) do not work, check the bulb. If the bulb is normal, we recommend that you contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Instrument Panel Fuse Panel Replacement

1. Set the ignition switch and all other switches to the OFF position.

2. Open the fuse panel cover.

3. Remove the suspected fuse. Use the fuse puller located in the engine compartment fuse panel.

4. Inspect the removed fuse and replace it if blown.

5. Insert a new fuse of the same rating and make sure it is securely held in the clips.

If it shows play, we recommend that you contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

If you do not have a spare fuse, use a fuse of the same rating for a function that is not essential for vehicle operation, such as the cigarette lighter fuse.

If the headlights or other electrical components do not work and the fuses are good, check the fuse panel in the engine compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must be replaced.

Fuse Switch

Always set the fuse switch to the ON position.

If you move the switch to the OFF position, some items will be reset and the transmitter (or smart key) may not operate properly.

If the message below appears on the display, check the fuse switch and turn the fuse switch on (if equipped).

- Activate the "FUSE SWITCH"
- FUSE SWITCH ON

NOTICE

Always set the fuse switch to the ON position when driving the vehicle.

Do not move the fuse switch repeatedly.

The fuse switch may be damaged.

Engine Compartment Fuse Box Replacement

1. Set the ignition switch and all other switches to the OFF position.

2. To remove the fuse panel cover, press the button and PULL.

3. Inspect the removed fuse and replace it if blown. To remove or insert a fuse, use the fuse puller located in the engine compartment fuse panel.

4. Insert a new fuse of the same rating and make sure it is securely held in the clips. If it shows play, we recommend that you contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

NOTICE

After checking the engine compartment fuse panel, reinstall its cover securely. If you do not, water may enter and cause power supply malfunctions.
