Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the intake actuator connector.
  3. Check that the intake actuator operates to the fresh air position when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and ground to terminal 4. Check that the intake actuator operates to the recirculation position when the polarity is reversed.

    3. Fresh Air
    4. Sensor (+5V)
    5. Feedback Actuator
    6. Sensor Ground
    7. Recirculation Air
  4. Connect the intake actuator connector.
  5. Start.
  6. Check the voltage between terminals 6 and 5. Specification
Door Position VOLTAGE (V) Fault Detection
    Recirculation – 0.3±0.15 V Low voltage: 0.1 V or less
    Fresh Air – 4.7±0.15 V High voltage: 4.9 V or more

There will be feedback on the current position from the actuator to the control unit.
  7. If the intake actuator does not operate properly, replace it with a known good intake actuator and verify correct operation.
  8. If the intake actuator is faulty, replace it.

Diagnosis with GDS

  1. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system can be diagnosed quickly (defective parts) using the Global Diagnostic System (GDS). ※ The GDS provides the following information. (1) Self-diagnosis: checks and displays diagnostic trouble codes (DTC). (2) Current data: checks the status of input/output signals. (3) Active test: checks system operating conditions. (4) Additional functions: in addition to control, such as zero point adjustment.
  2. Select the "Vehicle Model" and the system to be checked in order to inspect the vehicle with the scan tool.
  3. Select the "Current Data" menu to check the current input/output status. The input/output data for the sensors related to the intake actuator can be checked.
  4. To perform a forced operation on the intake actuator input factors, select "ACTUAL TEST".

REPLACEMENT

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the assembly from the protective cover. (Refer to Body - Main Instrument Panel)
  3. Disconnect the connector, then remove the intake actuator (A) after loosening the mounting screws.
  4. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
