For optimum battery performance

  • Secure the battery firmly.
  • Keep the battery clean and dry.
  • Keep the terminals and fittings clean, tight, and coated with petroleum jelly or grease.
  • Immediately wash off any electrolyte spilled on the battery with a solution of water and sodium bicarbonate.
  • If the vehicle will not be used for a long period of time, disconnect the battery cables.

Intelligent

The base battery is maintenance-free. If the battery in your vehicle has LOWER and UPPER marks on the side, you may check the electrolyte level. The level should be between LOWER and UPPER. If the electrolyte level is low, add distilled (demineralized) water if necessary (never add sulfuric acid or any other electrolyte). When adding water, be careful not to splash the battery and adjacent components. Also be careful not to overfill the battery cells or cause corrosion of other parts. Then make sure to tighten the cell caps. We recommend that you contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

WARNING

Battery Hazards

Read the following instructions carefully when handling the battery.

Keep lit cigarettes, open flames, or sparks away.

Battery cells always contain hydrogen gas, which is highly flammable and may explode if ignited.

Keep batteries out of the reach of children, as they contain extremely corrosive SULFURIC ACID. Avoid contact of sulfuric acid with skin, eyes, clothing, or paint.

If electrolyte gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately. If your skin comes into contact with electrolyte, wash the affected area thoroughly. If you feel pain or burning, seek medical attention immediately.

Wear eye protection when charging or working near the battery. Make sure to ventilate the area if working in an enclosed space.

Disposing of the battery without following disposal recommendations may be hazardous to the environment and health. Dispose of the battery in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The battery contains lead. Do not discard after use. Take the discharged battery to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for recycling.

  • When lifting a plastic-cased battery, excessive pressure on the case may cause sulfuric acid to leak out and cause injury. Lift the battery using a battery carrier or with your hands on opposite corners.
  • Never attempt to recharge the battery while the battery cables are connected.
  • The ignition system operates at high voltage. Never touch any part of this system while the engine is running or the ignition switch is in the ON position.

Failure to observe the above warnings may result in serious bodily injury or death.
