When refueling:
- Check the engine oil level.
- Check that the coolant level in the reservoir is correct.
- Check the windshield washer fluid level.
- Make sure the tires are properly inflated.
WARNING
Be careful when checking the coolant level while the engine is still warm. Hot coolant and steam may be under pressure and discharge. This may cause burns or serious injury.
While driving the vehicle:
- Pay attention to any changes in exhaust noise or exhaust odor inside the vehicle.
- Pay attention to any steering wheel vibration. Note whether the steering requires more effort or, conversely, feels looser, and also note any changes in direction.
- Note if the vehicle constantly pulls to one side or drifts sideways when driving on a flat, smooth road.
- When you stop, listen for and note any unusual noises. Check for pulling to one side, a soft brake pedal, or a stiff brake pedal.
- If you notice slipping or a change in transmission operation, check the transmission fluid level.
- Check that the automatic transmission is in the P (Park) position.
- Parking Brake Inspection
- Make sure there are no leaks under the vehicle (water dripping from the air conditioning system during or after use).
At least once a month:
- Check that the coolant level in the reservoir is correct.
- Check the operation of exterior lights, including headlights, stop lights, turn signals, and hazard warning lights.
- Check the pressure of all tires, including the spare tire.
At least twice a year (i.e., in autumn and spring):
- Make sure there are no leaks or damage in the radiator, heater, and air conditioning hoses.
- Check the windshield washer nozzles and wiper operation. Wipe the wiper blades with a clean cloth dampened with windshield washer fluid.
- Check the headlight aim.
- Check the muffler, exhaust pipes, heat shields, and clamps.
- Make sure the three-point seat belts latch and operate properly.
- Make sure the tires are not worn and that the wheel nuts are properly tightened.
At least once a year:
- Clean the body and door drain holes.
- Lubricate the door hinges and latches, and the hood hinges.
- Lubricate the door and hood latches and catches.
- Lubricate the door weatherstrips.
- Check the air conditioning system before summer.
- Check and lubricate the transmission and automatic transmission shift controls.
