What to Do in an Emergency

Tire Replacement with TPMS

~3min read

When a tire is deflated, the tire pressure warning light illuminates and the corresponding wheel position indicator lights up. We recommend that you have your vehicle's system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

NOTICE

We recommend that you use a HYUNDAI-approved sealant.

When replacing a tire, the seal connecting the tire pressure sensor to the wheel must be removed.

Each wheel is equipped with a pressure sensor installed inside the tire, behind the valve stem. You must use wheels specifically designed for TPMS. We recommend entrusting the service of your tires to a HYUNDAI-approved dealer.

If you drive the vehicle for about 10 minutes at speeds above 25 km/h after replacing an under-inflated tire with the spare tire, one of the following events occurs:

  • The TPMS malfunction indicator will flash for approximately 1 minute and then remain on continuously, because the TPMS sensor is not installed on the spare wheel. (Replacing a tire without a sensor present in the vehicle)
  • The TPMS malfunction indicator will remain on continuously while driving because the TPMS sensor on the replacement wheel is not installed. (Replacing a tire with a sensor present in the vehicle)

You may not be able to distinguish an under-inflated tire by sight alone. Always use a tire pressure gauge to measure tire pressure. Note that the pressure of a hot tire (one that has just been driven) will be higher than that of a cold tire (one that has been stationary for at least 3 hours and driven less than 1.6 km during that 3-hour period).

Allow the tires to cool before measuring tire pressure. Always check that the tires are cold before inflating them to the recommended pressure.

A tire is cold when the vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours and has been driven less than 1.6 km during those 3 hours.

NOTICE

We recommend using a HYUNDAI-approved tire sealant if your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Using liquid sealant may damage the tire pressure sensors.

WARNING

TPMS

  • The TPMS cannot warn you of serious damage or sudden tire failure caused by external factors such as nails or road debris.
  • If you notice that the vehicle is unstable, reduce speed and brake gently, then park in a safe place off the road.

WARNING

TPMS Protection

Changing, modifying, or disabling components of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may interfere with the system's ability to warn the driver of underinflated tires and/or TPMS malfunctions. Changing, modifying, or deactivating TPMS components may also void the warranty on this part of the vehicle.

WARNING

TPMS Precautions

  • Do not modify the vehicle, as this may interfere with the TPMS function.
  • Aftermarket wheels do not have TPMS sensors. For your safety, it is recommended to use genuine parts supplied by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • If you use aftermarket wheels, use TPMS sensors approved by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. If your vehicle is not equipped with TPMS sensors or if they do not operate properly, you may not be able to pass the periodic vehicle inspection required in your country.

All vehicles sold in the European market during the periods listed below must be equipped with a TPMS.

- New vehicle model: November 1, 2012~
- Current vehicle model: November 1, 2014~ (based on vehicle registration)
