Checking the Engine Oil Level

Gasoline Engine

Diesel engine
1. Make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground.
2. Start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature.
3. Stop the engine and wait several minutes (about 5 minutes) for the oil to drain back into the oil pan.
4. Pull out, wipe, and fully reinsert the dipstick.
WARNING
Radiator Hose
When checking the oil level or adding oil, be careful not to touch the radiator hose, which may be very hot and cause burns.
5. Pull the dipstick out again and check the level. The level should be between the F and L marks.
It is recommended to have the engine oil and oil filter replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
NOTICE
- Do not spill engine oil when adding or changing oil. If engine oil gets into the engine compartment, wipe it off immediately.
- Use a clean cloth when wiping the dipstick. Debris may damage the engine.
NOTICE
- Diesel Engine
Overfilling engine oil can seriously damage the engine through aeration-induced ignition. This phenomenon can damage the engine and cause sudden engine overspeed, knocking combustion and emission of white smoke.

If the level is near or at L, add oil to bring the level up to the F mark. Do not overfill the engine with oil.
Use a funnel to avoid spilling oil on engine components.
Use only the specified engine oil. (Refer to "Recommended Lubricants and Capacities" in Chapter 8.)
