Curtain Airbags

~1min read
Hyundai i30. Curtain air bags

Curtain airbags are located along both sides of the roof rails above the front and rear doors.

They are designed to protect the heads of front seat and outboard rear seat passengers in certain side collisions.

The curtain airbags are designed to deploy in certain side collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and point of impact of the crash.

The curtain airbags on both sides of the vehicle are designed to deploy when a rollover is detected by the rollover sensor. (if equipped with a rollover sensor)

Curtain airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death resulting from curtain airbag deployment, observe the following precautions:

  • All passengers should always wear seat belts to help keep them properly positioned.
  • Install the child restraint system as far away from the door as possible.
  • Do not place any objects on the airbag cover. Also, do not attach any objects around the airbag area, such as doors, side window glass, front and rear pillars, or roof side rails, as they may interfere with airbag deployment.
  • Do not hang any objects other than clothing, especially hard or breakable items. In an accident, they may cause damage to the vehicle or personal injury.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their heads or bodies against the door, place their hands on the door, extend their hands out of the window, or place objects between the doors and seats.
  • Do not open or repair the side curtain airbags.
