Your vehicle is equipped with a side airbag for each front seat. The side airbags are designed to provide the driver and front passenger with additional protection beyond that provided by the seat belt alone.

The side airbags are designed to deploy in certain side collisions, depending on the severity, angle, speed, and point of impact of the crash.

The side airbags on both sides of the vehicle are designed to deploy when a rollover is detected by the rollover sensor. (if equipped with a rollover sensor)

The side airbags are not designed to deploy in every side impact or rollover situation.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death resulting from side airbag deployment, observe the following precautions:

  • Always wear your seat belt to help keep occupants properly positioned.
  • Do not allow passengers to lean their head or body against the door, place their hands on the door, extend their arms out of the window, or place objects between the doors and seats.
  • Hold the steering wheel at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions to minimize the risk of injury to your hands and arms.
  • Do not use any seat covers or accessories. They may reduce or prevent the effectiveness of the system.
  • Do not hang any objects other than clothing. In a crash, they may cause damage to the vehicle or injury, especially when the airbag is inflated.
  • Do not place any objects on top of the airbag or between the airbag and yourself. Also, do not attach any objects around the area where the airbag inflates, such as the door, side window glass, front and rear pillars.
  • Do not place any objects between the door and seat. They may become dangerous projectiles if the side airbag deploys.
  • Do not install any accessories on or near the side airbag.
  • Do not apply pressure to the doors when the ignition is in the ON position, as this may cause the side airbags to inflate.
  • If the seat or seat cover is damaged, we recommend that the system be serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
