Recommended Cold Tire Pressure

~1min read

Check the pressure of all tires (including the spare) when the tires are cold. "Cold tires" means the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours or has been driven less than one mile (1.6 km).

Warm tire pressure is typically 4-6 psi (28 to 41 kPa) higher than the recommended cold tire pressure. Do not release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure, or the tires will be underinflated. For recommended tire pressures, refer to "Tires and Wheels" in chapter 8.

WARNING

The recommended pressure must be maintained for better ride, vehicle handling, and minimum tire wear.

Excessive or insufficient tire pressure can shorten tire life, negatively affect vehicle handling, and cause sudden tire failure, which may result in loss of vehicle control and a crash. Severe under-inflation can cause excessive heat buildup, resulting in tire separation, tread separation, and other tire failures that may lead to loss of vehicle control and a crash. This risk is much higher on hot days and during prolonged high-speed driving.

CAUTION

  • Underinflation causes excessive wear, poor handling, and reduced fuel economy. It can also damage the wheel. Keep tire pressure at the proper levels. If a tire frequently needs air, have it inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Overinflation causes a harsh ride, excessive wear at the center of the tire tread, and a greater likelihood of damage from road hazards.
