Special Features
Hybrid vehicles sound different from vehicles with a gasoline engine. When the hybrid system is operating, you may hear a sound from the hybrid battery system behind the rear seat. If you depress the accelerator pedal suddenly, you may hear an unusual sound. When you depress the brake pedal, you may hear a sound from the regenerative brake system. When the hybrid system is turned on or off, you may hear a sound from the engine compartment. If you depress the brake pedal several times while the hybrid system is on, you may hear a sound from the engine compartment. None of these sounds indicate a malfunction. These are normal characteristics of hybrid vehicles.
If any of the following occurs, it is normal if you hear a motor sound in the engine compartment:
- After the hybrid system is turned off, the brake pedal is released.
- When the hybrid system is turned off, the brake pedal is depressed.
- When the driver's door is opened.
When the hybrid system is on, the gasoline engine may or may not start. In this case, you may feel vibration. This does not indicate a malfunction. When the "
" indicator is illuminated, the hybrid system is ready to drive. Even if the engine is off, you can drive the vehicle as long as the "
" indicator is illuminated.
NOTICE
The hybrid system contains many electronic components. High-voltage components, such as cables and other parts, may emit electromagnetic waves. Even though the cover blocks electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetic waves may affect electronic devices. When the vehicle is not used for a long period of time, the hybrid system will discharge. You should drive the vehicle several times a month. We recommend driving at least 1 hour or 10 miles. When the hybrid battery is discharged, or when the vehicle cannot be started from an external power source, contact a HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
- When you start the hybrid system with the shift lever in the P (Park) position, the "
" indicator illuminates on the instrument cluster. The driver can operate the vehicle even with the gasoline engine off. - When you exit the vehicle, turn the vehicle off and place the shift lever in the P (Park) position. If you accidentally press the accelerator pedal or the shift lever is not in the P (Park) position, the vehicle may move suddenly, which could result in serious injury or death.
Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS)
The Virtual Engine Sound System generates engine sounds that pedestrians can hear, because the vehicle sound is limited when operating on electric power.
What does regenerative braking do?
It uses the electric motor during deceleration and braking and converts kinetic energy into electrical energy to charge the high-voltage battery.
Battery
- Hybrid Vehicle
- The vehicle consists of a high-voltage battery that powers the motor and air conditioner, and a built-in 12V lithium-ion polymer HEV battery that powers the headlights, wipers, and audio system.
- The built-in 12V battery is automatically charged when the vehicle is in the
(Ready) mode. - Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle
- The vehicle consists of a high-voltage battery that powers the motor and air conditioner, and an auxiliary (12V) battery that powers the headlights, wipers, and audio system.
- The auxiliary battery is automatically charged when the vehicle is in the
(Ready) mode.
