Closing the Tailgate

Lower the liftgate and press down until it latches. To make sure the liftgate is securely closed, always check by trying to lift it again without pressing the liftgate handle button.
WARNING
Always keep the trunk lid fully closed while driving the vehicle. If it is left open or partially open, toxic exhaust gases containing carbon monoxide (CO) may enter the vehicle, which may cause serious illness or death.
Information
To avoid damaging the liftgate lift cylinders and related equipment, always close the liftgate before driving.
NOTICE
In cold and humid climates, the liftgate lock and liftgate mechanisms may not operate properly due to freezing conditions.
WARNING
Do not hold the part (gas strut) that supports the liftgate. Be aware that deformation of the part may cause damage to the vehicle and risk of a traffic accident.
WARNING
- NEVER allow anyone to occupy the luggage compartment of the vehicle at any time. If the liftgate is partially or fully latched and a person cannot get out, serious injury or death may occur due to lack of ventilation, exhaust gas, rapid heating, or exposure to cold weather conditions. The luggage compartment is also a very dangerous place in the vehicle in the event of a collision, because it is not a protected passenger space but part of the vehicle's crush zone.
- Keep your vehicle locked and keys out of reach of children. Parents should inform their children of the dangers of playing in the luggage compartment.
