[A]: Front sensor, [B]: Rear sensor

The Parking Distance Warning (PDW) (Reverse/Forward) System assists the driver while the vehicle is moving by sounding an audible warning when an object is detected within 39 in. (100 cm) at the front and 47 in. (120 cm) at the rear of the vehicle.

This system is an optional system that detects objects within the range and location of the sensors. It cannot detect objects in areas where sensors are not installed.

WARNING

  • ALWAYS look around the vehicle to make sure there are no objects or obstacles before moving the vehicle in any direction to prevent a collision.
  • Always pay close attention when the vehicle is moving near objects, especially pedestrians, and especially children.
  • Be aware that some objects may not be displayed or detected by the sensors due to the object's distance, size, or material, all of which may limit the effectiveness of the sensors.

Operating the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System

Operating Condition

  • This system is activated when the Parking Distance Warning button is pressed with the engine running.
  • The detection distance when reversing is approximately 47 in. (120 cm) when driving at less than 6 mph (10 km/h).
  • The detection distance when driving forward is approximately 39 in. (100 cm) when driving at less than 6 mph (10 km/h).
  • When more than two objects are detected at the same time, the nearest one will be recognized first.
  • If you shift into R (Reverse) with the engine running and the Parking Distance Warning system switched off, the system will operate automatically.

Types of Warning Sound and Indicator

Information

  • The indicator may differ from the illustration depending on the position of the objects or sensors. If the indicator flashes, have the vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • If the audible warning does not sound, or the buzzer sounds intermittently when shifting into R (Reverse), this may indicate a malfunction in the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System. If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System Operating Limitations

The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System may not operate normally when any of the following occurs:

  • Moisture has frozen on the sensor.
  • The sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as snow or water, or the sensor cover is blocked.

The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System may malfunction when the following occurs:

  • Driving on uneven road surfaces such as dirt roads, gravel, bumps, or slopes.
  • Objects creating excessive noise, such as vehicle horns, loud motorcycle engines, or truck air brakes, may interfere with the sensor.
  • Heavy rain or water spray is present.
  • Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are located near the sensor.
  • The sensor is covered with snow.
  • Any non-factory equipment or accessories have been installed, or the vehicle bumper height or sensor installation has been changed.

The detection range may decrease if:

  • The outside air temperature is very hot or cold.
  • Undetectable objects smaller than 40 in. (1 m) high and narrower than 6 in. (14 cm) in diameter.

The following objects may not be detected by the sensor:

  • Sharp or thin objects, such as ropes, chains, or small poles.
  • Objects that tend to absorb the sensor frequency, such as clothing, porous materials, or snow.
  • The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System may not operate consistently under some conditions, depending on vehicle speed and the shape of detected objects.
  • The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) system may malfunction if the vehicle bumper height or sensor installation has been changed or damaged. Any non-factory installed equipment or accessories may also interfere with sensor performance.
  • The sensor may not detect objects closer than 15 in. (40 cm) from the sensor, or it may indicate an incorrect distance. Use caution.
  • When the sensor is blocked by snow, dirt, debris, or ice, the system may not function until the snow or ice melts or the debris is removed. Use a soft cloth to wipe debris away from the sensor.
  • Do not press, scratch, or strike the sensor with any hard objects, as this may damage the sensor surface. Damage to the sensor may occur.
  • Do not spray high-pressure washer water directly at the sensors or the area around them. This may cause the sensors to not operate normally.

WARNING

The new vehicle warranty does not cover accidents or damage to the vehicle or injuries to its occupants related to the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse/Forward) System.

Always drive safely and carefully.
