[B] : Sensor

The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System assists the driver when backing up by sounding an audible warning if an object is detected within approximately 50 in (120 cm) behind the vehicle.

This system is an optional system that detects objects within the range and location of the sensors. It cannot detect objects in areas where sensors are not installed.

WARNING

  • ALWAYS inspect the area around your vehicle to make sure there are no objects or obstacles before moving the vehicle in any direction to prevent a collision.
  • Always pay close attention when the vehicle is approaching objects, especially pedestrians, and especially children.
  • Be aware that some objects may not be shown on the display or detected by the sensors due to object distance, size, or material, any of which may limit sensor effectiveness.

Operating the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System

Operating Condition

  • This system is activated when reverse gear is engaged with the ignition switch in the ON position. However, if the vehicle speed exceeds 3 mph (5 km/h), the system may not detect objects.
  • If the vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h), the system will not warn you even if an object is detected.
  • When more than two objects are detected at the same time, the nearest one will be recognized first.

Types of Warning Sound and Indicator

NOTICE

  • The indicator may differ from the illustration depending on the position of objects or sensors. If the indicator flashes, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • If the audible warning does not sound, or if the buzzer sounds intermittently when shifting into R (Reverse), this may indicate a malfunction in the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System. If this occurs, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possible.

Conditions Under Which the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System May Not Operate

The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System may not operate normally when any of the following occur:

  • The sensor is covered with dirt or debris, such as snow or ice, or the sensor cover is blocked.

The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System may malfunction when any of the following occur:

  • Driving on uneven road surfaces such as dirt roads, gravel, bumps, or slopes.
  • Objects producing excessive noise, such as vehicle horns, loud motorcycle engines, or truck air brakes, may interfere with the sensor.
  • Heavy rain or water spray is present.
  • Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are located near the sensor.
  • The sensor is covered with snow.
  • Any non-factory equipment or accessories have been installed, or the vehicle bumper height or sensor installation has been changed.

The detection range may decrease if:

  • The outside air temperature is very hot or cold.
  • Undetectable objects smaller than 40 in. (1 m) high and narrower than 6 in. (14 cm) in diameter.

The following objects may not be detected by the sensor:

  • Sharp or thin objects, such as ropes, chains, or small poles.
  • Objects that tend to absorb the sensor frequency, such as clothing, porous materials, or snow.
  • The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System may not operate consistently in some cases, depending on vehicle speed and the shape of detected objects.
  • The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System may malfunction if the bumper height or sensor installation has been changed or damaged. Any non-factory installed equipment or accessories may also interfere with sensor performance.
  • The sensor may not detect objects within 12 in (30 cm) of the sensor, or it may detect an incorrect distance. Use caution.
  • When the sensor is blocked by snow, dirt, debris, or ice, the rear parking assist system may not operate until the snow or ice melts or the debris is removed. Use a soft cloth to remove debris from the sensor.
  • Do not press, scratch, or strike the sensor with any hard objects, as this may damage the sensor surface. Damage to the sensor may occur.
  • Do not spray high-pressure washer water directly at the sensors or the area around them. This may cause the sensors to not operate normally.

WARNING

Extreme caution must always be used to avoid accidents or vehicle injuries. Do not rely solely on the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System. Always drive safely and carefully, especially when backing up.
