1. Auto Heater Actuator

Description and Operation

Description

The automatic defogging sensor is installed on the windshield. The sensor detects moisture and sends a signal to remove fogging. The air conditioning control module receives the signal, detects and removes moisture, and eliminates fogging by controlling the intake air door actuator, air conditioning, automatic blower actuator, blower motor speed and mode actuator.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the auto defog actuator connector.
  3. Check that the auto defog actuator operates to the open position when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and ground terminal 4. Check that the auto defog actuator operates to the closed position when connected in reverse.

    4. DEF (Close)
    5. Sensor Ground
    6. Feedback Signal
    7. Sensor (+5V)
  4. Connect the defogger actuator connector.
  5. Start.
  6. Check the voltage between terminals 6 and 5.Specification
Door Position VOLTAGE (V) Fault Detection
VENT 0,4±0,15 Low voltage: 0.1 V or less
    Heater 3,35 ± 0,15 High Voltage: 3.8 V or more
  7. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, check operation by replacing the existing auto defog actuator with a new genuine part. Then determine whether replacement of the auto heater actuator is required.

Diagnosis with GDS

  1. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system can be diagnosed quickly (defective parts) using the Global Diagnostic System (GDS). ※ The GDS provides the following information. (1) Self-diagnosis: checks and displays diagnostic trouble codes (DTC). (2) Current data: checks the status of input/output signals. (3) Active test: checks system operating conditions. (4) Additional functions: in addition to control, such as zero point adjustment.
  2. Select the "Vehicle Model" and the system to be checked in order to inspect the vehicle with the scan tool.
  3. Select the "Current Data" menu to check the current input/output status. The input/output data of the sensors related to the auto defog actuator can be checked.
  4. To perform a forced operation based on the input factors of the auto heater actuator, select "ACTUATOR TEST".

REPLACEMENT

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the assembly from the protective cover. (Refer to Body - Main Instrument Panel)
  3. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the auto blower actuator (B) after loosening the fixing screws.
  4. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
