Hazardous Driving Conditions

~1min read

In hazardous driving conditions, such as water, snow, ice, mud or sand:

  • Drive carefully and increase the safe following distance.
  • Avoid sudden braking or turning.
  • If you become stuck in snow, mud or sand, use second gear. Accelerate gradually to avoid wheel spin.
  • Place sand, coarse salt or any other non-slip material under the drive wheels to improve traction when stuck in snow, ice or mud.

WARNING

Downshifting an automatic transmission on a slippery road surface may cause an accident. Sudden changes in speed may cause loss of traction and tire slip. Be careful when downshifting on slippery road surfaces.
