Description

  • The AEB system is designed to prevent a potential collision or reduce impact when the driver brakes inadequately, late, or does not brake to avoid a collision.
  • The system detects road risk factors with the front view sensor, warns the driver, and activates emergency braking to avoid a collision or reduce speed in a crash.
The following describes the ordering process for the system.
  1. Detects vehicles (and pedestrians) ahead using the radar sensor of the Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system and the camera sensor of the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), and analyzes the data (CAN communication).
  2. Confirms the protected object (vehicles and pedestrians) for the AEB system using the analyzed data.
  3. Calculates the required speed reduction based on speed and distance, regardless of whether a vehicle is ahead.
  4. Reports the "required speed reduction" to the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system (CAN communication).
  5. VDC performs automatic control after calculating the torque required to achieve the "required speed reduction" (CAN communication).

Operation

※ The indicated time varies depending on vehicle speed.
  • Step 1: Audible and visual warning (display) when a hazard is detected.
  • Step 2: Reduce engine torque and activate AEB at high collision risk.
  • Step 3: Activate emergency braking when a collision is unavoidable.
  • After the vehicle stops: Hold the brake pedal for a while, then release it.
