Lane Keeping Assist System Malfunction

When the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system does not operate properly, the "Check Lane Keeping Assist" warning message appears and the yellowindicator light illuminates on the cluster. If this occurs, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Lane Keeping Assist System Limitations

The Lane Keeping Assist system may not operate properly or may operate unexpectedly under the following conditions:

  • The lane is dirty or difficult to detect because:
    - Lane markings (or road edges) are covered with rain, snow, dirt, oil, etc.
    - The color of the lane markings (or road edge) is not distinguishable from the road
    - There are road markings (or road edges) near an alley, or road markings (or road edges) on the road resemble alley markings (or road edges)
    - Lane markings (or road edge) are faded or damaged
    - Shadows are on the lane markings (or road edge) from the median strip, trees, guardrails, noise barriers, etc.
  • There are more than two lane markings (or road edges) on the road.
  • The lane number increases or decreases, or lane markings (or road edges) intersect.
  • The lane markings (or road edges) are complex or structural substitutes for lines, such as construction areas.
  • There are road markings such as zigzag lines, crosswalk markings and road signs.
  • The lane suddenly disappears, such as at an intersection.
  • The lane (or road width) is very wide or narrow.
  • There is a road edge without a lane marking.
  • There is a boundary structure on the roadway, such as a toll gate, sidewalk, curb, etc.
  • The distance to the vehicle ahead is very short, or the vehicle ahead blocks the lane markings (or road edge).

Information

For more detailed information on the front camera limitations, refer to the "Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)" section in chapter 7.

WARNING

Observe the following precautions when using the Lane Keeping Assist system:

  • The driver is responsible for safe driving and must control the vehicle. Do not rely solely on Lane Keeping Assist when driving, as this is dangerous.
  • Lane Keeping Assist operation may be cancelled or may not operate properly depending on road conditions and surroundings. Always be careful while driving.
  • See "Lane Keeping Assist Limitations" if the lane is not detected correctly.
  • When towing a trailer or other vehicle, we recommend that the Lane Keeping Assist system be turned off for safety reasons.
  • If the vehicle is driven at high speed, steering may not be controllable. The driver must always observe the speed limit when using Lane Keeping Assist.
  • If another system's warning is displayed or sounded, the Lane Keeping Assist warning message may not be displayed and the warning sound may not be generated.
  • You may not hear the Lane Keeping Assist warning sound if there is excessive noise outside the vehicle.
  • If you attach objects to the steering wheel, steering may not be properly supported.
  • Lane Keeping Assist may not operate for 15 seconds after the vehicle is started or the front view camera is initialized.
  • Lane Keeping Assist does not operate when:
    - The turn signal or hazard warning lights are on
    - The vehicle is not moving toward the center of the lane while Lane Keeping Assist is on, or right after a lane change
    - ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) is activated
    - The vehicle is driving through a sharp curve
    - Below 35 mph (55 km/h) or above 130 mph (210 km/h)
    - The vehicle makes a sudden lane change
    - The vehicle brakes suddenly
