Hood Opening

1. Park the vehicle and apply the parking brake.

2. Pull the hood release lever. The hood should pop up slightly.

3. Go to the front of the vehicle, lift the hood slightly, then lift the secondary latch (1) located in the center of the hood and raise the hood.

Once the hood is raised halfway, it will open fully on its own.

Hood Closing

1. Before closing the hood, check the engine compartment and its surroundings to make sure the following:

- Any tools or other loose items are removed from the engine compartment or hood opening area.
- All gloves, rags, or other flammable materials are removed from the engine compartment.
- All filler caps are properly installed and secured.

2. Lower the hood to about 12 in (30 cm) above the fully closed position, then press down firmly to lock it in place. Then check twice to make sure the hood is secure. If the hood can be lifted slightly, it is not latched. Open it again and close it with more force.

WARNING

  • Before closing the hood, make sure all obstructions are removed from around the hood opening.
  • Always check twice that the hood is securely latched before driving. Make sure the hood warning light or the hood open message is not illuminated on the instrument cluster. Driving with the hood open may cause a complete loss of visibility, which may lead to an accident.
  • Do not drive the vehicle with the hood open, as visibility is restricted, which may cause an accident, and the hood may fall or be damaged.
