Seat Belts with Pretensioners (if equipped)
In this vehicle, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioners. These devices are designed to pull the seat belts tighter against the occupant's body and the seatback in certain types of frontal collisions. Seat belt pretensioners activate during traffic accidents involving a sufficiently severe frontal impact.
When the vehicle stops suddenly or the occupant leans forward very rapidly, the locking mechanism prevents the belt from moving. In certain types of frontal collisions, the seat belt pretensioner activates, causing the belt to tightly restrain the occupant's body.
WARNING
For safety, make sure the belt webbing is not loose or twisted, and position the belt correctly.

The seat belt pretensioner system consists of the following components (see illustration).
1. Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light
2. Pretensioner located on the retractor
3. Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit
WARNING
For the seat belts with pretensioners to work at maximum effectiveness, the following conditions are required.
1. The seat belt must be properly positioned and correctly adjusted. Read the important information and precautions regarding occupant safety, including seat belts and airbags, provided in this manual.
2. Follow the seat belt usage rules and require passengers to do the same.
NOTE
• Activation of the seat belt pretensioners may be accompanied by a loud noise and a cloud of fine dust resembling smoke in the passenger compartment. This is a normal result of the device operating and is not dangerous.
• Although harmless, the fine dust may cause skin irritation; inhaling large amounts is undesirable. After a traffic accident in which a seat belt pretensioner has activated, thoroughly wash any exposed skin.
• Because the sensor that sends the airbag deployment signal is connected to the seat belt pretensioners, the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light
on the instrument panel illuminates for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition is turned ON (key turned to the ON position), and then it should go out.
After they have deployed, the corresponding seat belt assembly must be replaced. All seat belts that were worn by occupants during a collision, regardless of their type, must be replaced.
• Seat belt pretensioner mechanisms heat up to a high temperature when deployed. Do not touch them for several minutes after deployment.
• Do not attempt to inspect or replace seat belts equipped with pretensioners yourself. This work must be performed by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
• Do not strike seat belt pretensioner components.
• Do not attempt to perform any service or repair work on the seat belt pretensioner system yourself.
• Improper handling of seat belt pretensioner components, or failure to observe warnings against impact, modification, inspection, service or replacement, may result in malfunction or accidental deployment and may cause serious injury.
• While the vehicle is in motion, all occupants (both driver and passengers) must wear seat belts.
• If the vehicle or the seat belt pretensioners must be disposed of, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
