Vehicle Safety System

Seat Belt Care

~1min read

Never disassemble or modify the seat belt system. In addition, take care to prevent damage to the belts and their hardware from seat mounting components, doors, or other objects.

WARNING

When returning the rear seatback from the folded position to the upright position, be careful to avoid damaging the belt webbing or the buckle.

Make sure the webbing or buckle is not pinched or trapped by the rear seat.

Damage to the seat belt webbing or buckle may prevent the belt from functioning properly in a collision or sudden stop and may result in serious injury. If these components are damaged, they must be replaced immediately.

Periodic Inspection

It is recommended to periodically inspect all seat belts for signs of wear and damage of any kind.

Damaged parts must be replaced as soon as possible.

Belts must be clean and dry

Seat belts must be kept clean and dry.

If the belts become soiled, they may be cleaned with a solution of mild soap in warm water. Do not use bleach, dyes, strong detergents, or abrasive substances, as they may damage the belt webbing and reduce its strength.

When to Replace Seat Belts

If the vehicle has been involved in a traffic accident, the seat belt assemblies and related components that were subjected to load during the accident must be replaced. This must be done even if no visible signs of damage are present.
