ENGINE START/STOP Button with Indicator Light
When the front door is opened, the engine start/stop button indicator light turns on. It turns off 30 seconds after the door is closed.
Engine Start/Stop Button OFF Position

• With manual transmission
To stop the engine (STArT/rUN position) or to turn the ignition off (ON position), stop the vehicle and press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
• With automatic transmission
To turn off the engine (STArT/rUN position) or the vehicle's electrical power (ON position), press the engine start/stop button with the selector lever in P (Park). If the engine start/stop button is pressed when the selector lever is in any position other than P (Park), the button switches to the ACC position, not OFF.
In addition, for anti-theft protection, the steering wheel locks when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position. It locks when the door is opened.
If the steering wheel is not locked properly when the driver's door is opened, a warning chime sounds. In this case, lock the steering wheel again. If the problem cannot be resolved, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Also, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position after the driver's door is opened, the steering wheel does not lock and a warning chime sounds. In this case, close the door.
After this, the steering wheel will lock and the warning chime will stop.
NOTE
If the steering wheel is not unlocked properly, the ENGINE START/STOP button will not operate. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while turning the steering wheel slightly from side to side to release the lock mechanism.
In an emergency while the engine is running, you can stop the engine and switch the ENGINE START/STOP button to ACC (accessory) by pressing and holding the ENGINE START/STOP button for more than 2 seconds, or by pressing it 3 times within 3 seconds. If the vehicle continues to move, you can restart the engine without pressing the brake pedal. To do this, press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever in N (Neutral).
ACC (Accessory)

• Manual transaxle

• Automatic transaxle
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button when it is in the OFF position without pressing the brake pedal.
The steering wheel will be unlocked and it will be possible to turn on the accessory electrical equipment.
If the ENGINE START/STOP button remains in ACC mode for more than 1 hour, this mode turns off automatically to prevent battery discharge.

• Manual transaxle
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button when it is in the ACC position without pressing the brake pedal.
• Automatic transaxle

You can check whether the indicator lights come on before starting the engine. Do not leave the ENGINE START/STOP button in the ON position for a long time. The battery may discharge because the engine is stopped.

It is recommended to start the engine in P (Park).
NOTICE
If the ENGINE START/STOP button is pressed without pressing the brake pedal, the engine will not start and the button position changes as follows:
OFF → ACC → ON → OFF or ACC
NOTE
If the ENGINE START/STOP button is left in the ACC or ON position for a long time, the battery will be excessively discharged.
WARNING
• Never press the ENGINE START/STOP button while the vehicle is moving. Otherwise, steering and braking performance will be reduced, which may cause an accident.
• The steering wheel lock must not be used in place of the parking brake. Before leaving the driver's seat, make sure the shift lever is in P (Park), the parking brake is properly applied, and the engine is stopped.
Failure to observe these precautions may cause the vehicle to move suddenly.
• Do not reach through the steering wheel to operate the ENGINE START/STOP button or any other control while the vehicle is moving. Otherwise, loss of vehicle control may occur, which may cause an accident, serious injury, or death.
• Do not place loose objects near the driver's seat, as they may move and interfere with the driver's control of the vehicle, causing an accident.
