Maintenance

Maintenance Performed by the Vehicle Owner

~3min read

The following lists show vehicle condition inspections that must be performed at the specified intervals by the owner or an authorized HYUNDAI dealer to ensure safe and reliable operation of the vehicle.

In addition, your dealer should take into account all severe operating conditions.

These inspections performed by the vehicle owner are generally not covered by the warranty. In this regard, in some cases the owner will be required to pay for the work performed as well as for the parts and lubricants used.

Maintenance Schedule Performed by the Vehicle Owner

When refueling the vehicle:

• Check the engine oil level.
• Check the coolant level in the reservoir.
• Check the windshield washer fluid level in the reservoir.
• Make sure the tire air pressure is within specification.
• Check the engine cooling system radiator and the air conditioning condenser. Make sure they are not contaminated or clogged with leaves, insects, etc. If necessary, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer immediately.

WARNING

Use caution when checking the coolant level with a hot engine.

Hot coolant and steam under pressure released from the reservoir may cause burns or other injury.

During vehicle operation:

• Note any changes in exhaust noise and the smell of exhaust gases in the passenger compartment.
• Monitor steering wheel vibration. Pay attention to increased steering effort, steering play, and changes in steering wheel neutral position.
• Check whether the vehicle constantly pulls slightly to one side when driving on a smooth, level road.
• During braking, listen for unusual noises from vehicle systems, note any pulling to one side, increased brake pedal travel, or increased pedal effort.
• If the wrong gear is selected or any changes in transmission operation occur, check the transmission fluid level.
• Check the operation of the manual transmission, including the clutch.
• Check the operation of the automatic transmission in P (Park) position.
• Check the operation of the parking brake.
• Make sure there are no signs of fluid leaks under the vehicle (water dripping from the air conditioning system during operation or after shutdown is not a sign of a malfunction).

At least once a month:

• Check the coolant level in the expansion tank.
• Check the operation of all exterior lights, including stop lights, turn signals and hazard warning lights.
• Check the air pressure in all tires, including the spare tire.

At least twice a year (i.e., every spring and fall):

• Check the radiator, heater and air conditioning hoses for leaks and damage.
• Check the operation of the windshield washer and wipers.

Clean the wiper blades with a clean cloth dampened with washer fluid.
• Check headlight aim.
• Check the muffler, exhaust system pipes, shields and clamps.
• Make sure the seat belts are not worn and function properly.
• Make sure the tires are not excessively worn and the wheel nuts are properly tightened.

At least once a year:

• Clean the drain holes in the body and doors.
• Lubricate the door and hood hinges and door checks.
• Lubricate the door and hood latches and locks.
• Lubricate the rubber door seals.
• Before the warm season begins, check the air conditioning system.
• Check the power steering fluid level.
• Check the condition and lubricate the mechanical controls of the automatic transmission.
• Clean the battery and terminals.
• Check the brake fluid level.
