Lane Keeping Assist System Malfunction

When the Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system is not operating properly, the "Check Lane Keeping Assist" warning message may appear and the yellowindicator light may illuminate on the instrument cluster. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Lane Keeping Assist System Limitations

Lane Keeping Assist may not operate normally or may operate unexpectedly if:

  • The lane is difficult to recognize because:
    - Lane markings (or road edges) are damaged or covered with rain, snow, dirt, oil, etc.
    - The color of the lane markings (or road edge) is not distinguishable from the road.
    - There are markings (or road edges) on or next to the lane that look similar to lane markings (or road edges).
    - Lane markings are obscured by shadows of objects around the road, such as median strips, guardrails, noise barriers, and trees.
  • There are more than two lane markings (or road edges) on the road.
  • The number of lanes increases or decreases, or lane markings (or road edges) intersect.
  • The lane markings (or road edges) are complex or structures substitute for lines, such as construction zones or toll areas.
  • There are road markings such as zigzag lines, crosswalk markings, and road signs.
  • The lane suddenly disappears, such as at an intersection.
  • The lane (or road) width is very wide or narrow.
  • There is a road edge without a lane marking.
  • There is a boundary structure on the road, such as a sidewalk or curb.
  • The distance to the vehicle ahead is very short, or the vehicle ahead blocks the lane markings (or road edge).

    - Either the turn signal or hazard warning light is on.
    - Your vehicle does not move to the center of the lane after steering with Lane Keeping Assist or after changing lanes.
    - ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) adjusts braking force to the wheels.
