Description

The passenger airbag module (PAB) is located in the passenger seat area of the instrument panel. This PAB contains 2 airbag inflators and 1 active vent inflator. Depending on the crash severity or seat belt tightening, the timing of the 2 airbag inflators and the 1 active vent inflator is determined. At the moment of vehicle collision, the active vent inflator causes the airbag to inflate, and then gas is released sequentially through the vent holes of the airbag immediately. These operations reduce passenger head injury. First, the active vent sets rapid airbag deployment by maintaining pressure; after deployment, the airbag releases gas through the upper airbag vent. Tether Cutter operation: when an electrical signal is received, the Tether Cutter cuts the tether that was attached to the active vent to open the upper airbag vent. Active Vent operating range
  1. If the passenger in the passenger seat is not wearing a seat belt, the active vent deploys at the end of the crash regardless of crash severity.
  2. If the passenger is wearing a seat belt and the crash is severe enough that 2 passenger airbag stages deploy, the active vent is activated to optimize passenger protection.
  3. Low speed + Belt: Main inflator + 2 stages deploy & Active Vent at the end of the crash.
Never attempt to measure the resistance of the airbag module circuit (squib), even if you use the specified tester. If the circuit resistance is measured with a tester, accidental airbag deployment will result in serious injury.
