Automatic Transmission

Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The transmission fluid temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the automatic transmission fluid and sends the reading to the TCM. It is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) sensor, whose resistance is inversely proportional to the temperature level. The data output by this sensor is used to determine the activation and deactivation zones of the torque converter clutch within the low and high temperature ranges, and to compensate hydraulic pressure levels during gear shifting.
