✽ NOTICE - Warning Lights

Make sure all warning lights turn off after starting the engine. If any light remains on, it indicates a condition that requires attention.

Airbag Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When you set the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.
    - The light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds, then goes off.
  • If there is a malfunction with the SRS.
In this case, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Parking Brake and Brake Fluid Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When you set the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.
    - The light illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
  • If the parking brake is applied, the warning light will remain on.
  • When the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.
    - If the warning light comes on with the parking brake released, it indicates that the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low.

If the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low:

1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop the vehicle.

2. With the engine stopped, check the brake fluid level immediately and top up the fluid as necessary (Refer to "Brake Fluid" in Chapter 7).

Then, check all brake system components for fluid leakage. If leaks are still present, the warning light remains on, or the brakes do not function properly, do not drive the vehicle.

In this case, have your vehicle towed to an authorized Kia dealer and inspected.

Dual Diagonal Brake System

Your vehicle is equipped with a dual diagonal brake system. This means you still have braking on two wheels even if one of the dual systems should fail.

With only one of the dual systems working, a longer than normal pedal travel and greater pedal pressure are required to stop the vehicle.

In addition, the vehicle will not stop as quickly with only part of the brake system working.

If the brakes fail while driving, shift to a lower gear for additional engine braking and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.

Driving with the warning light on is dangerous. If the brake warning light remains on after the parking brake is released, it indicates that the brake fluid level is low.

In this case, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When you set the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.
    - The light illuminates for approximately 3 seconds, then goes off.

In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light

These two warning lights illuminate at the same time when driving:

• When the ABS and the conventional brake system may not be operating normally.

In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING! Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light

When both the ABS and the parking brake/brake fluid warning lights are on, the brake system will not function normally and you may experience an unexpected and dangerous situation during sudden braking, thereby increasing the risk of an accident and injury. In this case, avoid driving at high speeds and sudden braking. Have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

✽ NOTICE - Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) System Warning Light

When the ABS warning light or both the ABS and parking brake and brake fluid warning lights are on, the speedometer, odometer, or trip meter may not operate. In addition, the EPS warning light may come on and steering wheel effort may increase or decrease.

It is recommended that you have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Electric Power Steering (EPS) Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When the ENGINE START/STOP button is turned on, the warning light illuminates for approximately 3 seconds and turns off automatically if there is no problem.
  • If the warning light illuminates while driving, it indicates a problem with the electric power steering system. In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When you set the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.
    - The light remains on until the engine is started.
  • If there is a malfunction with the emission control system.
In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING! Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

Driving with the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on may cause damage to the emission control system, which could affect drivability and/or fuel economy.

CAUTION - Catalytic Converter Damage

If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is on, there is potential for damage to the catalytic converter, which may result in loss of engine power.

In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Charging System Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When you set the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.
    - The light remains on until the engine is started.
  • If there is a malfunction with either the alternator or the electrical charging system.

If there is a malfunction in either the alternator or the electrical charging system:

1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop the vehicle.

2. Turn the engine off and check the alternator drive belt for looseness or breakage.

If the belt is adjusted correctly, there may be a problem in the charging system.

In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light

This indicator light illuminates:

  • When you set the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position.
    - The light remains on until the engine is started.
  • When the engine oil pressure is low.

If the engine oil pressure is low:

1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop the vehicle.

2. Turn off the engine and check the engine oil level (Refer to "Engine Oil" in chapter 7 for details). If the level is low, add oil as necessary.
