Operates as follows when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON position.

MIST: For one wiping cycle, move the lever to this (MIST) position and release it. The wipers will operate continuously if the lever is held in this position.

OFF: The wiper does not operate.

INT: The wipers operate intermittently at the same wiping intervals. Use this mode in light rain or fog. To change the speed setting, turn the speed control knob.

LO: Normal wiper speed

HI: Fast wiper speed

✽ NOTICE

If there is heavy accumulation of snow or ice on the windshield, defrost the windshield for about 10 minutes, or until the snow and/or ice is removed before using the windshield wipers to ensure proper operation. If you do not remove the snow and/or ice before using the wipers and washer, you may damage the wiper and washer system.

Automatic Control

The rain sensor (A), located on the upper edge of the windshield, detects the amount of precipitation and controls the wiper cycle interval. The heavier the rain, the faster the wipers operate. When the rain stops, the wipers stop.

To change the speed setting, turn the speed control knob (1).

If the wiper switch is set to the AUTO position when the ENGINE START/STOP button is ON, the wiper will operate once to perform a system self-check. Set the wiper switch to the OFF position when the wipers are not in use.

WARNING

When the ENGINE START/STOP button is ON and the wiper switch is in AUTO, be careful in the following situations to avoid injury to your hands or other body parts:

  • Do not touch the upper edge of the windshield rain sensor cover.
  • Do not wipe the upper end of the windshield with a wet or damp cloth.
  • Do not apply pressure to the windshield.

CAUTION

  • When washing the vehicle, set the wiper switch to the OFF position to stop the automatic wiper operation. The wiper may operate and be damaged if the switch is set to AUTO while washing the vehicle.
  • Do not remove the sensor cover located on the upper end of the passenger side windshield. Damage to system parts may occur and may not be covered by your vehicle warranty.
  • When starting the vehicle in winter, set the wiper switch to the OFF position. Otherwise, the wipers may activate and ice may damage the windshield or wiper blades. Always remove all snow and ice and defrost the windshield properly before operating the windshield wipers.
