Airbag Module Disposal Procedure

Airbag Module Disposal Procedure

If equipped with airbags, the airbag modules and seat belt pretensioners must be deployed before disposing of the vehicle. Deployment must be performed by a qualified technician. The deployed airbag device must not be installed in other vehicles; therefore reuse is not possible.

Located inside the vehicle

  1. Turn the ignition key OFF. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal and wait at least 3 minutes.

  2. Make sure each airbag device is securely mounted.

  3. The following must be ready for airbag device deployment.

    1. Disconnect the 2-pin airbag connector of the airbag to be deployed inside the vehicle.

    2. Connect only the airbag adapter.

      • Disconnect the 2-pin connector from the driver airbag and connect the deployment adapter to replace the steering wheel.

  4. The operator must be at least 7 m (23 ft) away from the vehicle.

  5. Connect the airbag deployment special tool (0957A-34100A) and deployment adapters to the external deployment battery.

    3. Deployment adapter

      • Driver airbag, seat belts, passenger airbag, side airbags and curtain airbags, anchor pretensioner (0K57A-3U100A)

  6. Use the switch on the airbag deployment tool to deploy the airbag device.

    1. When the tool is connected to the battery (12 V), the POWER (1) indicator lights.

    2. While holding the READY (2) button, the READY (2) indicator lights. Press DEPLOY (3) to deploy the airbag.

  7. After deployment, dispose of the airbag in a sturdy plastic bag and seal it securely.

Placement outside the vehicle

  1. Secure the wheel with rope straps crossed (A) and place it on the floor (B).

  2. Install the airbag module / pretensioner adapter (A) (0K57A-3U100A).

  3. Secure the airbag module / pretensioner (A) to the wheel.

  4. Lift the tire (A). Lift the tire (B) installed on the wheel.

  5. Secure the tire using ratchet straps (C).

  6. After connecting the battery, connect the airbag deployment tool (0957A-34100A) to the deployment adapter (0K57A-3U100A).

  7. After connecting the battery to the airbag deployment tool, POWER ON (A) lights. Press READY (B), then press DEPLOY (C) to deploy the airbag.

  8. Securely seal the deployed airbag in a sturdy plastic bag and then replace it.
