Side Impact Sensor (SIS)
Description and Operation
Description
The Side Impact Sensor (SIS) system consists of two pressure-type side impact sensors. One Pressure Side Impact Sensor (P-SIS) is installed in each front door module center (left and right), and two G-SIS sensors are installed on each center pillar (left and right).
The pressure-type side impact sensor is also called P-SIS because it detects pressure caused by a collision at its installation location.
The side impact sensor is also called G-SIS because it detects acceleration.
The SRSCM determines airbag deployment and deployment timing based on the collision signal from the SIS at the time of impact.

Repair Procedures
Removal
Gravity Side Impact Sensor (G-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the center pillar trim.
(Refer to Body - "Center Pillar Trim")
Loosen the bolt and remove the side impact sensor (A).
Tightening torque: 8.8–9.8 N·m

Disconnect the side impact sensor connector (A).

Side Impact Pressure Sensor (P-SIS)
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the front door trim panel.
(Refer to Body - "Front Door Trim Panel")
Disconnect the side impact pressure sensor connector (B), then remove the side impact pressure sensor (A) by turning it counterclockwise.

Installation
Install in the reverse order of removal.
After installing the side impact sensor, check that the system operates correctly:
Turn the ignition switch ON. The SRS indicator should illuminate for approximately six seconds and then turn off.
