This indicator light illuminates:

  • As soon as you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop button to the ON position.
    - Stays on until the engine is started.
  • If there is a malfunction with the emission control system.
    In this situation, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminates, the catalytic converter may be damaged, which may result in loss of engine power.
