Non-Operating Conditions of Rear Parking Distance Warning

~2min read

The Rear Parking Distance Warning may not operate properly when:

1. Moisture has frozen on the sensor. (It will operate normally once the moisture is cleared.)

2. The sensor is covered with foreign substances such as snow or water, or the sensor cover is blocked. (It will operate normally when the material is removed or the sensor is no longer blocked.)

3. Driving on rough road surfaces (dirt roads, gravel, bumps, slopes, etc.).

4. Objects producing excessive noise (vehicle horns, loud motorcycle engines, or truck air brakes) are within the sensor range.

5. Rain or water spray.

6. Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are within the sensor range.

7. The sensor is covered with snow.

8. Towing a trailer.

The detection range may decrease when:

1. The sensor is covered with foreign substances such as snow or water. (The sensing range will return to normal after removal.)

2. The outside air temperature is very hot or cold.

The following objects may not be detected by the sensor:

1. Sharp or thin objects such as ropes, chains, or small poles.

2. Objects that can absorb the sensor frequency, such as clothing, sound-absorbing material, or snow.

3. Undetectable objects less than 1 m (40 in.) in height and less than 14 cm (6 in.) in diameter.

Rear Parking Distance Warning Precautions

  • The Rear Parking Distance Warning may not sound continuously depending on the vehicle speed and the shape of the detected objects.
  • The Rear Parking Distance Warning may malfunction if the bumper height or sensor installation has been changed or damaged. Any non-factory installed equipment or accessories may also interfere with sensor operation.
  • The sensor may not detect objects less than 40 cm (15 in.) from the sensor, or it may display an incorrect distance. Be careful. • When the sensor is frozen or covered with snow, dirt, or water, the sensor may not operate until the material is removed with a soft cloth.
  • To avoid damage, do not press, scratch, or strike the sensor.

✽ NOTICE

This system can only detect objects within the range and location of the sensors. It cannot detect objects in other areas where sensors are not installed. In addition, small or thin objects, such as poles or objects located between the sensors, may not be detected by the sensors. Pay special attention when the vehicle approaches objects on the road, especially pedestrians and especially children. Always visually check behind the vehicle when driving in reverse. Be sure to inform drivers of vehicles that may be unfamiliar with the system about its capabilities and limitations.

Self-Diagnosis

If you do not hear the warning sound, or if the buzzer sounds intermittently when shifting into the R (Reverse) position, there may be a malfunction in the rear parking distance warning system. If this occurs, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

✽ NOTICE

The new vehicle warranty does not cover any accidents or damage to the vehicle or injuries to its passengers. Always drive safely and carefully.
