Smart Key Precautions

~2min read
  • If you lose your smart key, you will not be able to start the engine. Tow the vehicle if necessary and contact an authorized Kia dealer.
  • A maximum of 2 Smart Keys can be registered to one vehicle. If you lose a Smart Key, you must immediately take the vehicle and the key to an authorized Kia dealer to protect against possible theft.
  • The Smart Key may not work properly if any of the following occurs:
    - The Smart Key is near a radio transmitter, such as a radio station or airport, which may interfere with normal operation of the Smart Key.
    - The Smart Key is near a mobile two-way radio system or cellular phone.
    - A Smart Key of another vehicle is operating near your vehicle. When the Smart Key does not operate properly, lock and unlock the door with the mechanical key. If you have a problem with the Smart Key, contact an authorized Kia dealer.
  • If the Smart Key is in close proximity to your mobile phone or smartphone, the signal from the Smart Key may be blocked during normal operation of your mobile phone or smartphone. This is especially likely when the phone is active, for example, making or receiving calls, text messaging, and/or sending or receiving e-mail. Avoid placing the Smart Key and your mobile phone or smartphone in the same trouser or jacket pocket, and keep a sufficient distance between the two devices.
  • Do not leave the Smart Key near metal objects, such as golf bags, metal cases, and so on.
  • Door lock/unlock failure or poor starting performance may occur when the Smart Key is near metal objects.
  • Always carry the Smart Key with you when you leave the vehicle unattended. Leaving the Smart Key near the vehicle may cause the vehicle battery to discharge.
  • Internal circuit damage may occur if the key comes into contact with moisture (beverages, water, etc.) or heat. Damage to the Smart Key caused by exposure to liquids or heat is not covered by the vehicle manufacturer's warranty.

CAUTION - Transmitter

Keep the smart key away from water or any liquid as much as possible to avoid damage and malfunction.
