Inspection

When the engine is off, the change in fuel tank pressure due to ambient temperature is monitored by the NVLD. When the engine starts, the ECM determines whether a leak exists based on the monitored data. If a leak is detected, the ECM displays DTC P0455 or P0456.

Process Overview

If the NVLD detects a leak, inspect the vehicle as shown in the flowchart below to determine whether the fault was caused by a leak in the fuel system or by the NVLD itself.

Leak Test with FTPS (Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor)

If a leak is detected by the NVLD, a leak test using the FTPS is performed more than 3-5 times to check the fuel tank system components. This test is intended only for the production line or service center to determine the true cause (NVLD or fuel system) of DTC P0455 or P0456.
  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Connect the GDS to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Select "Vehicle, Model Year, Engine, System".
  5. Select "Vehicle Software Management".
  6. Select "Check/Test".
  7. Select "Evap. Leak Test".
  8. Perform the test as shown in the illustration below.
