Steering Angle Sensor Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Steering Wheel Angle Sensor (SAS) is installed in the MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) and sends messages to the HECU via the CAN communication line. The SAS is used to detect the steering direction and steering wheel speed. The HECU uses the signals from the SAS when performing ESC-related calculations. The EPS system components (steering wheel angle sensor, torque sensor, fail-safe relay, etc.) are located inside the steering column & EPS unit. The EPS unit assembly must not be disassembled for inspection. Replace it as an assembly if necessary. (Refer to ST (Steering System) group)
