2. Cruise Control Indicator

The cruise control system allows the vehicle to be programmed to maintain a constant speed without depressing the accelerator pedal.

This system is designed to operate at speeds above approximately 40 km/h.

WARNING

  • If the cruise control remains on (CRUISE indicator on the instrument cluster is illuminated), cruise control may be accidentally engaged. Keep the cruise control system off (CRUISE indicator off) when cruise control is not in use to avoid accidentally setting a speed.
  • Use the cruise control system only when driving on open highways in good weather.
  • Do not use cruise control if it is unsafe to maintain a constant speed, such as in heavy or changing traffic, on slippery (wet, icy or snow-covered) or winding roads, or on hills steeper than 6% up or down.
  • Pay special attention to driving conditions when using the Cruise Control system.
  • Be careful when driving downhill with the Cruise Control system, as it may increase the vehicle speed.

✽ NOTICE

  • During normal cruise control operation, when the SET switch is activated or the system is reactivated after braking, cruise control will engage after approximately 3 seconds. This delay is normal.
  • To activate Cruise Control, depress the brake pedal at least once after turning the ignition switch to the ON position or starting the engine. This is to check that the brake switch, which is an important part of cancelling Cruise Control, is in normal condition.

Cruise control switch

CRUISE :

CRUISE:

Turns the cruise control system on or off.

CANCEL:

Cancels cruise control operation.

RES+:

Resumes or increases the cruise control speed.

SET-:

Sets or decreases the cruise control speed.

To set the cruise control speed:

1. Press the CRUISE button on the steering wheel to turn the system on. The CRUISE

1. Press the CRUISE button on the steering wheel to turn on the system. The CRUISE indicator on the instrument cluster will illuminate.

2. Accelerate to the desired speed, which must be above 40 km/h.

3. Move the lever down (to SET-), and release it at the desired speed. The SET

3. Move the lever down (to SET-) and release it at the desired speed. The SET indicator on the instrument cluster will illuminate.

Release the accelerator pedal at the same time. The desired speed will be maintained automatically.

On a steep hill, the vehicle may slightly decelerate or accelerate uphill or downhill.

To increase the cruise control set speed:

Follow either of these procedures:

Perform any of the following procedures:

  • Move the lever up (to RES+) and hold it. Your vehicle will accelerate. Release the lever at the desired speed.
  • Move the lever up (to RES+) and release it immediately. The cruise speed will increase by 1 mph (or 2 km/h) each time you move the lever up (to RES+) in this way.

To decrease the cruise control set speed:

Follow either of these procedures:

Perform any of the following procedures:

  • Move the lever down (to SET-) and hold it. Your vehicle will gradually decelerate. Release the lever at the speed you want to maintain.
  • Move the lever down (to SET-) and release it immediately. The cruise speed will decrease by 1 mph (1.6 km/h) each time you move the lever down (to SET-) in this way.

To temporarily accelerate with cruise control on:

If you want to temporarily increase speed with cruise control on, press the accelerator pedal. The increased speed will not interfere with cruise control operation or change the set speed.

To return to the set speed, release the accelerator pedal.

To cancel cruise control, do one of the following:

  • Press the brake pedal.
  • Shift the automatic transmission to N (Neutral).
  • Press the CANCEL button located on the steering wheel.
  • Reduce the vehicle speed below the memory speed by 9 mph (15 km/h).
  • Reduce the vehicle speed to approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).

Each of these actions cancels cruise control operation (SET indicator lamp on the instrument cluster will turn off), but the system does not turn off. If you want to resume cruise control operation, press the RES+ switch located on the steering wheel. You will return to the previously set speed.

To resume cruise control speed above approximately 40 km/h:

If any method other than the CRUISE button was used to cancel cruising speed

If a method other than the CRUISE button was used to cancel cruise control and the system is still activated, the most recently set speed will automatically resume when you move the lever up (to RES+).

However, it will not resume if the vehicle speed drops below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).

To turn off cruise control, do one of the following:

  • Press the CRUISE button (the CRUISE indicator on the instrument cluster will turn off).
  • Turn the ignition off.

Either of these actions cancels cruise control operation. If you want to resume cruise control, repeat the steps described in "Setting the Cruise Control Speed" on the previous page.
