✽ NOTICE
If heavy snow or ice has accumulated on the windshield, defrost the windshield for approximately 10 minutes, or until the snow and/or ice is removed, before using the wipers to ensure proper operation.
Automatic Control (if equipped)

The rain sensor, located at the top of the windshield, detects the amount of rain and controls the wiping cycle at appropriate intervals.
The heavier the rain, the faster the wiper operates. When the rain stops, the wipers stop.
To change the speed setting, turn the sensitivity adjustment knob (1).
If the wiper switch is set to AUTO with the ignition on, the wipers will operate once to perform a system self-check. Set the wiper switch to the OFF (O) position when the wipers are not in use.
CAUTION
When the ignition switch is ON and the wiper switch is in AUTO mode, observe the following precautions to avoid injury to your hands or other parts of your body:
- Do not touch the upper edge of the windshield facing the rain sensor.
- Do not wipe the upper edge of the windshield with a wet or damp cloth.
- Do not press on the windshield.
CAUTION
When washing the vehicle, set the wiper switch to the OFF (O) position to stop the automatic wiper operation. The wipers may operate and become damaged if the switch is set to AUTO while the vehicle is being washed. Do not remove the sensor cover located on the upper part of the windshield on the passenger side. System damage may occur and may not be covered by your vehicle warranty. When starting the vehicle in winter, set the wiper switch to the OFF (O) position. Otherwise, the wipers may operate and ice may damage the windshield wiper blades. Always remove all snow and ice and properly defrost the windshield before using the wipers.
Windshield Washers

In the OFF position, pull the lever toward you carefully to spray washer fluid onto the windshield and operate the wipers for 1-3 cycles.
Use this function when the windshield is dirty.
The washer and wiper will continue to operate until you release the lever.
If the washer does not operate, check the washer fluid level. If the fluid level is low, add the appropriate non-abrasive windshield washer fluid to the washer reservoir.
The washer reservoir filler neck is located at the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side.
CAUTION
To avoid possible damage to the washer pump, do not operate the washer when the washer fluid reservoir is empty.
WARNING
Do not use the washer at sub-zero temperatures without first warming up the windshield with the defroster; the washer solution may freeze on the windshield and obstruct your vision.
CAUTION
- To prevent possible damage to the wiper blades or windshield, do not operate the wipers when the windshield is dry.
- To avoid damaging the wiper blades, do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner or other solvents on or near them.
- To prevent damage to the wiper arms and other components, do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.
