Tire Replacement

~2min read

If the tire is worn evenly, the tread wear indicator (A) will appear as a solid band across the tread. This shows that the tread depth is less than 1.6 mm (1/16 inch). Replace the tire.

Do not wait until the band appears across the entire tread before replacing the tire.

The ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) works by comparing the speed of the wheels. Tire size affects wheel rotational speed. When replacing tires, all 4 tires must be the same size as those originally supplied with the vehicle. Using tires of a different size may cause the ABS and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) to malfunction.

✽ NOTICE

We recommend using the same tires as those originally supplied with the vehicle when replacing tires. Otherwise, the driving characteristics may be changed.

Compact Spare Tire Replacement

The compact spare tire has a shorter service life than a standard-size tire. Replace it when you see the tread wear indicator bands on the tire. A replacement compact spare tire must be the same size and design as the one supplied with your new vehicle and must be installed on the same compact spare wheel. The compact spare wheel is not intended to be fitted to a standard-size wheel, and the compact spare wheel is not intended to accept a standard-size tire.

Wheel Replacement, Tire Traction, Tire Repair

Wheel Replacement

When replacing metal wheels for any reason, make sure the new wheels are equivalent to the original factory wheels in diameter, rim width, and offset.

An incorrectly sized wheel may adversely affect the service life of the wheel and bearing, brake and braking performance, handling, ground clearance, tire-to-body clearance, snow chain clearance, speedometer and odometer calibration, headlight aim and bumper height.

CAUTION - Wheels

Wheels that do not meet Kia specifications may not fit properly and may cause damage to the vehicle or unusual handling and poor vehicle control.

Tire Traction

Tire traction may be reduced if you drive on worn tires, tires that are incorrectly inflated, or on slippery road surfaces. Tires should be replaced when tread wear indicators appear. Brake gently whenever the road is wet, snowy or icy to reduce the possibility of losing control of the vehicle.

Tire Maintenance

In addition to proper inflation, proper wheel alignment helps reduce tire wear. If you notice that a tire is wearing unevenly, have the alignment checked by a dealer.

When installing new tires, make sure they are balanced. This will improve ride comfort and tire life. In addition, the tire should always be rebalanced if it has been removed from the wheel.
