Safety Equipment of Your Vehicle

Sicherheitshinweise für Sicherheitsgurte

~5min read

WARNING

  • All vehicle occupants must always wear seat belts. Seat belts and child restraint systems reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury for all occupants in the event of a collision or sudden braking. Improperly worn seat belts may allow occupants to come too close to a deploying airbag, strike parts of the vehicle, or be thrown from the vehicle. Properly worn belts can significantly reduce these hazards. Always follow the safety warnings in this manual regarding seat belts, airbags and occupant safety.
  • Legen Sie den Sicherheitsgurt nie über empfindliche Gegenstände. Bei einem plötzlichen Stopp oder Stoß kann der Sicherheitsgurt solche Gegenstände beschädigen.

Säuglinge und kleine Kinder

You must be aware of the specific requirements in your country. Child and infant seats must be properly positioned and secured on a rear seat. For more information on using these restraint systems, see "Child Restraint Systems" on page 3-30.

WARNING

Every occupant in your vehicle must always be properly belted. This also applies to infants and children. Never hold a child in your arms while the vehicle is moving. In an accident, the child could be thrown from your arms and against vehicle components due to the forces generated during the collision. Always use child restraint systems designed for the child's size and weight.

WARNING

Infants are best protected in an accident when properly secured in a rear seat in a child restraint system that meets the safety standards of your country. When purchasing a child restraint system, make sure it has a label certifying that it meets the safety standards of your country. The restraint system must be suitable for your child's size and weight. Check that the restraint system specifications match these values. Refer to "Child Restraint System" on page 3-30.

Größere Kinder

Children who are too large for child restraint systems must always sit in a rear seat and wear the existing seat belt. The lap/shoulder belt must fit comfortably and be positioned as low as possible across the hips. Check the belt position at regular intervals, as a child's movements may move the belt out of position. Children are best protected in an accident when secured in a rear seat with a proper restraint system. If a child over 12 years old must sit in the front seat, the child should be properly secured with the available lap/shoulder belt. In addition, the seat should be moved as far back as possible. Children up to 12 years old should be secured in a rear seat. Never allow a child up to 12 years old to sit in the front passenger seat. Never place a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

If the shoulder belt lightly touches the child's neck or face, try to position the child closer to the center of the vehicle. If the shoulder belt still touches the neck or face, a child restraint system must be used.

WARNING

Shoulder Belts and Small Children

  • While driving, the shoulder belt must never touch a child's neck or face.
  • Wenn Gurte nicht ordnungsgemäß Kinder angelegt und für Kinder eingestellt sind, besteht die Gefahr schwerer oder tödlicher Verletzungen.

Pregnant Women

Using the seat belt is recommended for pregnant women to reduce the risk of injury in an accident. When wearing the belt, the lap belt must be positioned as low and as snug as possible across the hips, but not over the abdomen. Consult your doctor for individual recommendations.

WARNING

Pregnant Women

Pregnant women must never position the lap belt over the abdomen, where the fetus is located, or where the belt could compress the fetus in a collision.

Verletzte Personen

The seat belt must also be worn when transporting an injured person. Consult a doctor for individual recommendations if necessary.

Eine Person pro Gurt

Two persons (including children) must never attempt to share a single seat belt. This could result in more severe injuries in an accident.

Während der Fahrt nicht liegen

To reduce the risk of injury in an accident and ensure maximum protection from the restraint system, all vehicle occupants must sit upright while the vehicle is moving, and the seatbacks of the front and rear seats must be in the upright position. The seat belt cannot provide adequate protection if a person on the rear seat or front seat is reclined.

WARNING

Driving with a seatback reclined far back increases the risk of serious or fatal injury in a collision or sudden braking. The protection provided by your restraint system (seat belts and airbags) is reduced when the seatback is reclined. Seat belts must still fit snugly across the hips and chest to provide protection. The more the seatback is reclined, the greater the chance that the occupant's hips will slide under the lap belt, causing serious internal injuries, or that the shoulder belt will strike the occupant's neck. Drivers and passengers must ALWAYS be properly belted, and the seatbacks must be in the upright position.
