Description
The EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) system, as a subsystem of the ABS system, controls the effective use of rear wheel grip. It also uses the capability of the advanced ABS hardware by monitoring rear wheel slip during partial braking. Braking force approaches the optimum and is controlled electronically, so a proportioning valve is not required. A mechanical proportioning valve has limitations in achieving ideal rear brake force distribution and flexible distribution depending on vehicle load or weight increase. In case of a malfunction, the driver will not notice whether it fails or not. The EBD controlled by the ABS control module always calculates the slip ratio of each wheel and controls rear wheel brake pressure so that it does not exceed that of the front wheels. If the EBD malfunctions, the EBD warning lamp (parking brake lamp) illuminates. Advantages- Improved performance of the basic brake system.
- Compensation for different friction coefficients.
- Elimination of the proportioning valve.
- Malfunction recognition by warning lamp.
