~3min read

To remove the mechanical key, press and hold the release button (1), then pull out the mechanical key (2).

To reinstall the mechanical key, insert the key into the slot and push it in until a click is heard.

With the smart key, you can lock or unlock the doors (and liftgate) and start the engine.

For more details, refer to the following section.

WARNING - Ignition Key (Electronic Key)

Never leave children unattended in the vehicle with a manual ignition key or smart key. Children may imitate adults and insert the key into the ignition switch or press the start button. The key allows children to operate power windows or other controls, or even set the vehicle in motion, which may result in serious injury or death.

Locking

Pressing the lock button on the front exterior door handle locks all doors (and hood and liftgate). If any door is unlocked, pressing the button locks all doors (and liftgate).

The hazard lights will flash once to indicate that all doors (and liftgate) are locked. The button will only work when the smart key is within 0.7 to 1 m (28 to 40 in.) of the exterior door handle. To confirm whether the door is locked, check the door lock button inside the vehicle or pull the exterior door handle.

Even if you press the button, the doors will not lock and a warning chime will sound if one of the following occurs:

  • The smart key is inside the vehicle.
  • The ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ACC or ON position.
  • Any door except the luggage compartment (trunk) is unlocked.

Unlocking

Pressing the button on the outside handle of the driver's (or front passenger's) door when the doors are closed and locked unlocks the driver's door.

The hazard warning lights will flash twice to indicate that the driver's door is unlocked. In addition, the outside rearview mirrors will fold out automatically if the outside rearview mirror folding switch is in the AUTO position.

The button will only work when the Smart Key is within 0.7 ~ 1 m (28 ~ 40 in.) of the outside door handle.

When the two-step unlock function is activated,

- If you press the button on the driver's door outside handle, the driver's door will unlock.
- If you press the button on the driver's door outside handle again within four seconds, then all doors and the luggage compartment (trunk) will unlock.

✽ NOTICE

You can enable or disable the two-press unlock function. Refer to "User Settings" in this chapter.

Unlocking the Trunk

If you are within 0.7 ~ 1 m (28 ~ 40 in.) of the luggage compartment (trunk) outside handle while carrying the Smart Key, the luggage compartment (trunk) will unlock and open when you press the luggage compartment (trunk) handle switch.

The hazard warning lights will flash twice to indicate that the luggage compartment (trunk) is unlocked.

Also, once the luggage compartment (trunk) is opened and then closed, it will lock automatically.

Panic

1. Press and hold the panic button (4) for more than 1 second.

2. The horn will sound and the hazard warning lights will flash for approximately 27 seconds.

✽ NOTICE

To turn off the horn and lights, press any button on the Smart Key.

Starting

You can start the engine without inserting the key.
