Repair Procedures

Replacement and Air Bleeding

  1. Make sure the engine and radiator are cold to the touch.
  2. Remove the pressure cap (A).
  3. Remove the engine cover. (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - Engine Cover)
  4. Loosen the drain plug (A) and drain the coolant.
  5. Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
  6. After draining the engine coolant, clean the reservoir tank.
  7. Fill the radiator with water through the radiator cap and tighten the cap.
  8. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Wait until the cooling fans have switched on several times. Raise the engine speed to help purge trapped air. Stop the engine.
  9. Wait until the engine has cooled down.
  10. Repeat steps 1 through 8 until the drained water is clean.
  11. Slowly pour 45-50% coolant and water through the radiator cap.
  12. Start the engine and let it run until the coolant begins to circulate. When the cooling fan operates and coolant circulates, add coolant through the radiator cap.
  13. Repeat step 11 until the cooling fan has turned on 3-5 times and sufficient air has been bled from the cooling system.
  14. Install the radiator cap and fill the coolant reservoir to the "MAX" (or "F") mark.
  15. Run the vehicle at idle until the cooling fan operates 2-3 times.
  16. Stop the engine and wait for the coolant to cool down.
  17. Repeat steps 10-15 until the coolant level stops dropping, bleeding air from the cooling system.Coolant capacity: approx. 5.3 L (1.40 US gal, 5.60 US qt, 4.66 liters)
