~2min read

Hood Opening

1. Pull the hood release lever to unlatch the hood. The hood should pop up slightly.

WARNING

Open the hood after turning off the engine on a level surface. Shift the gear selector lever to P (Park) for automatic transaxle or to 1st (first) gear or R (Reverse) for manual transaxle, and set the parking brake.

2. Stand at the front of the vehicle, lift the hood slightly, press the secondary latch (1) inside the hood, center and lift the hood (2).

3. Remove the support rod from the hood.

4. Hold the hood open with the support rod.

WARNING

Hot Surfaces

Grasp the support rod at the area with the yellow cap.

The cap helps prevent burns from hot metal when the engine is hot.

Hood Open Warning

A warning message (for Type B cluster) will appear on the LCD when the hood is open.

The warning chime will sound when the vehicle is driven above 3 km/h with the hood open.

Hood Closing

1. Before closing the hood, check the following:

  • All engine compartment filler caps must be installed correctly.
  • Gloves, rags, or any other flammable materials must be removed from the engine compartment.

2. Return the support rod to its clip to prevent it from rattling.

3. Lower the hood until it is about 30 cm (12 in.) above the closed position, then let it drop. Make sure it latches securely.

4. Make sure the hood is latched. If the hood can be lifted slightly, it is not properly latched. Open the hood again and close it with slightly more force.

WARNING

  • Before closing the hood, make sure that all obstructions are cleared from the hood opening. Closing the hood with an obstruction in the hood opening may cause property damage or serious personal injury.
  • Do not leave gloves, rags, or any other flammable materials in the engine compartment. Doing so may result in a fire.

WARNING

  • Always check twice to make sure the hood is fully latched before driving. If it is not latched, the hood may open while the vehicle is moving, resulting in complete loss of visibility, which may cause an accident.
  • The support rod must be fully inserted into the hood holder whenever you check the engine compartment. Otherwise, the hood may fall and injure you.
  • Do not drive the vehicle with the hood raised. Your view will be blocked, and the hood may fall or be damaged.
