Replacing a Wheel with TPMS

~4min read

In case of a puncture, the low tire pressure warning light will come on. Have the punctured tire repaired as soon as possible by an authorized Kia dealer, or replace the wheel with the spare wheel.

WARNING Never use a sealant not approved by Kia to repair and/or inflate a punctured tire. A tire sealant not approved by Kia may damage the tire pressure sensor. Sealant on the tire pressure sensor and the wheel must be removed when replacing the tire with a new one.

All wheels have a pressure sensor mounted behind the valve stem, inside the tire. The wheels used must be those specifically designed for the TPMS. For tires, it is always recommended to contact an authorized Kia dealer.

When the flat tire is replaced with the spare wheel, the low tire pressure warning light remains on until the flat tire is repaired and refitted to the vehicle.

After replacing the flat tire with the spare wheel, the TPMS malfunction indicator may come on after a few minutes, because the TPMS sensor fitted to the spare wheel has not been initialized.

Once the flat tire has been inflated to the correct pressure and installed on the vehicle, or the TPMS sensor fitted to the spare wheel has been initialized by an authorized Kia dealer, the TPMS malfunction indicator and the low tire pressure warning light will turn off after a few minutes of driving.

If the indicator does not turn off after driving for a few minutes, contact an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING If an original tire is replaced with the spare tire, the TPMS sensor of the spare wheel must be initialized, and the TPMS sensor of the original wheel must be deactivated. If the TPMS sensor of the original wheel is left active when it has been replaced by the spare wheel, the tire pressure monitoring system may not function properly. Have the tire with TPMS repaired or replaced by an authorized Kia dealer.

It is not possible to determine whether the tires are correctly inflated simply by looking at them.

To measure tire pressure, always use a good-quality pressure gauge. Keep in mind that if the pressure is measured with warm tires (i.e. after driving), the reading will be higher than the reading measured when cold (cold tires means that the vehicle has been stationary or has driven less than 1.6 km in the last 3 hours).

Before measuring the pressure, let the tires cool down.

Always make sure the tires are cold before inflating them to the specified pressure.

Cold tires means that the vehicle has been stationary or has driven less than 1.6 km in the last 3 hours.

WARNING If the vehicle is equipped with the tire pressure monitoring system, do not use any type of sealant except the one in the tire repair kit approved by Kia. Liquid sealant may damage the tire pressure sensors.

CAUTION - TPMS

  • The TPMS is not able to warn of serious and sudden tire damage caused by external factors such as nails or debris.
  • If the vehicle begins to feel unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, brake gradually using light pressure on the pedal, and slowly pull over to the side of the road in a safe place.
CAUTION - TPMS protection Tampering with, modifying or disabling components of the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may impair its operation, thereby preventing the warning of underinflated tires and/or system malfunction. Tampering with, modifying or disabling components of the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may void the warranty for that part of the vehicle.

CAUTION - For EUROPE

  • Do not modify the vehicle; modifications may interfere with the TPMS function.
  • Commercially available wheels do not have a TPMS sensor. For your safety, we recommend using replacement parts supplied by an authorized Kia dealer.
  • If commercially available wheels are used, use a TPMS sensor approved by an authorized Kia dealer.
If the vehicle is not equipped with a TPMS sensor or the TPMS does not function properly, you may not pass the periodic vehicle inspection required in your country.

❈ All vehicles sold in EUROPE during the period indicated below must be equipped with TPMS.
