Bulb Replacement Precautions

Keep spare bulbs of the appropriate wattage on hand in case of emergency.

See "Bulb Wattage" in chapter 9.

When replacing bulbs, first stop the engine in a safe place, firmly apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

WARNING - Working on Headlights

Before working on the headlamp, firmly apply the parking brake, make sure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position, and turn off the lights to avoid sudden vehicle movement and burned fingers or electric shock.

Use only bulbs of the specified wattage.

WARNING - Bulb Replacement

Always replace a burned-out bulb with one of the same rating. Otherwise, the fuse or wiring system may be damaged.

CAUTION - Headlamp lens

To avoid damage, do not clean the headlamp lens with chemical solvents or strong detergents.

• Partial bulb malfunction due to a power network failure

The headlamp, tail lamp, and fog lamps may illuminate when the headlamp switch is on, and may not illuminate when the tail lamp or light switch is turned ON. This may be caused by a power network failure or a malfunction of the vehicle's electrical control system. If this occurs, we recommend that the system be serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.

• Partial bulb malfunction due to electrical control system stabilization

A normally functioning lamp may flicker briefly. This momentary phenomenon occurs due to the stabilizing function of the vehicle's electrical system. If the lamp soon returns to normal, the vehicle does not require service.

However, if the lamp turns off after briefly flickering or the flickering continues, we recommend having the system serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.

✽ NOTICE

  • If the bulb or bulb connector is disconnected while the lamp is still on, the electronic control unit of the fuse box may detect this as a malfunction. Therefore, the lamp malfunction may be recorded as a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) in the fuse box.
  • Brief flickering of the working lamp is normal. This is due to the stabilization function of the electronic vehicle control unit. If the lamp lights normally after briefly flickering, it is operating normally. However, if the lamp continues to flicker several times or turns off completely, there may be a malfunction in the electronic vehicle control unit. Please have the vehicle inspected immediately by an authorized Kia dealer.

✽ NOTICE

We recommend adjusting the headlamp aim after an accident or after the headlamp assembly is reinstalled by an authorized Kia dealer.

✽ NOTICE

You may notice moisture inside the lamp lens after washing the vehicle or driving in the rain. This is a natural phenomenon caused by the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the lamp and does not indicate a functional problem. The moisture inside the lamp will disappear if you drive with the headlamps on; however, the rate of moisture removal may vary depending on the size, location, or condition of the lamp. If moisture continues to remain inside the lamp, we recommend having the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

If you do not have the necessary tools, suitable bulbs, and experience, consult an authorized Kia dealer. In many cases, replacing a vehicle lamp bulb is difficult because other vehicle parts must be removed before you can reach the bulb. This is especially true if you need to remove the headlamp assembly to access the bulb(s).

Removing/installing the headlamp assembly may cause damage to the vehicle.

Using non-genuine parts or low-quality bulbs may cause the fuse to blow or other wiring damage.

Do not install additional lamps or LEDs on the vehicle. Installing auxiliary lamps may cause malfunction and flickering of the lamps. In addition, the fuse box and other wiring may be damaged.
