System Malfunction

~2min read
  • When the FCA system is not operating properly, the FCA warning light ( ) will illuminate, and a warning message ("Check FCA System") will appear for several seconds. After the message disappears, the master warning light () will illuminate. In this case, have the vehicle inspected at an authorized Kia dealer.
  • The FCA warning message may appear together with the ESC warning light.

WARNING

  • The FCA system is only a supplementary convenience system. The driver is responsible for controlling the vehicle. Do not rely solely on the FCA system. Instead, maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, depress the brake pedal to reduce speed.
  • In some cases and under certain driving conditions, the FCA system may activate prematurely. This initial warning message appears on the LCD display with a warning chime. In addition, in some cases the front radar sensor may fail to detect the vehicle ahead. The FCA system may not activate, and no warning message will be displayed.
  • If the FCA system malfunctions, the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system will not apply, although the brake system operates normally.
  • If the vehicle ahead suddenly stops, you may have less braking control over your vehicle. Therefore, always maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
  • The FCA system may activate during braking, and the vehicle may stop suddenly, causing unsecured items to move toward the passengers. Always secure loose items.
  • The FCA system may not activate if the driver depresses the brake pedal to avoid a collision.
  • Braking control may be insufficient, which may result in a collision if the vehicle ahead stops suddenly. Always exercise extreme caution.
  • Passengers may be injured if the vehicle stops suddenly with the FCA system activated. Exercise extreme caution.

WARNING

  • The FCA system only detects vehicles in front of the vehicle.
  • The FCA system does not operate when the vehicle is moving in reverse.
  • The FCA system is not designed to detect other objects on the road.
  • The FCA system does not detect approaching vehicles crossing the path of the vehicle.
  • The FCA system cannot detect an approaching driver from the side view of a parked vehicle (for example, on a dead-end street).

In these cases, maintain a safe braking distance and, if necessary, depress the brake pedal to reduce vehicle speed and ensure a safe distance.
