Fuel
Important safety notes
WARNINGFuel is highly flammable. Therefore, smoking or bringing a flame or open fire near fuel is prohibited while handling it.
Switch off the engine before refueling.
WARNINGAvoid any contact with fuel.
Direct skin contact with fuel or inhaling fuel vapors is harmful to your health.

Petrol (EN 228, E DIN 51626-1)
Fuel quality
Never fill a vehicle with a gasoline engine with diesel fuel. Even small quantities of diesel fuel can damage the injection system. Use only unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 95 RON/85 MON that meets the requirements of European standard EN 228 or German standard E DIN 51626-1, or fuel of equivalent quality. Do not use the following fuels:- E85 (petrol with 85% ethanol)
- E100 (100% ethanol)
- M15 (petrol with 15% methanol)
- M85 (petrol with 85% methanol)
- M100 (100% methanol)
- Petrol containing metallic additives
- Diesel
Do not mix these types of fuel with petrol and do not use additives. Otherwise, you risk damaging the engine. This does not apply to additives that remove and prevent deposits. Only additives recommended by Mercedes-Benz may be mixed with petrol. For more information on recommended additives, contact a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
As a rule, information on fuel quality can be found on the petrol pump. If the corresponding marking is not shown on the pump, ask the filling station staff.
E10 fuel contains up to 10% bioethanol. Your vehicle is compatible with E10 fuel. You can refuel your vehicle with E10 fuel. If the recommended fuel is not available, you may temporarily use regular unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 91 RON / 82.5 MON. Engine power may then decrease and fuel consumption may increase. Avoid driving at full throttle. In some countries, the available fuel may not be of sufficient quality. This can lead to the formation of deposits. In this case, and after obtaining approval from a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre, add the additive recommended by Mercedes-Benz (part number A000989254510) to the petrol. Follow the instructions carefully and observe the mixing ratios stated on the container.
For more information on refuelling, see
Additives
Do not refuel with poor-quality fuel and do not use additives that have not been tested or approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Otherwise, damage or malfunctions may occur in the fuel system.Deposits formed during petrol combustion are one of the main problems associated with using poor-quality fuel. Mercedes-Benz recommends using good-quality fuels containing additives.
If you use fuels without additives over an extended period, deposits may form. They accumulate in particular on the intake valves and in the combustion chamber.
This can lead to engine operating problems, for example:
- an extended engine warm-up phase
- irregular idling
- engine noises
- misfiring
- a loss of power
Deposits may form in regions where petrol with the appropriate additives is not available. In this case, Mercedes-Benz recommends using additives approved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles (see http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com).
For a list of approved products, contact a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Observe the instructions for use given in the product description.
Do not add any other additives to the fuel. This causes unnecessary costs and could damage the engine.
Diesel (EN 590)
Fuel quality
WARNINGDo not refuel a vehicle with a diesel engine with petrol. Do not mix petrol with diesel.
Otherwise, the fuel system and the engine will be damaged. The vehicle could then catch fire.
Use only diesel that meets the requirements of European standard EN 590 or diesel of equivalent quality. If you use a fuel that does not meet the requirements of EN 590, the engine or the exhaust system may be damaged or may wear prematurely. Do not use the following fuels:- Marine diesel
- Heating oil
- Biodiesel
- Vegetable oil
- Petrol
- Paraffin
- Kerosene
Do not mix these types of fuel with diesel and do not use special additives. Otherwise, you risk damaging the engine. This does not apply to anti-gelling products, see "Low outside temperatures".
Vehicles equipped with a diesel particulate filter: if you must refuel in a country that is not part of the European Union, use only low-sulphur Euro diesel (less than 50 ppm). Otherwise, you risk damaging the emission control system. Vehicles without a diesel particulate filter: if you use your vehicle in a country where only diesel with a high sulphur content is available, the engine oil must be changed more frequently. For more information on the oil change interval, contact a qualified workshop. As a rule, information on fuel quality can be found on the petrol pump. If the corresponding marking is not shown on the pump, ask the filling station staff.
For further information, contact a qualified workshop.

Low outside temperatures
Diesel with improved cold flow properties is sold during the winter months. European standard EN 590 defines different cold resistance classes depending on climatic conditions. To avoid operating problems, use diesel that meets the requirements of EN 590 for the prevailing climatic conditions. At particularly low outside temperatures, the flow properties of diesel may not be sufficient. This also applies when diesel from warmer regions, not suited to the local climatic conditions, is used.
For more information on the properties of fuels specific to each country, contact the oil companies (at filling stations, for example).Anti-gelling product
To improve the cold resistance of diesel fuel, anti-gel additives may be added to the diesel. The effectiveness of an anti-gel additive is not guaranteed with all fuels.
Use only anti-gel additives tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. Observe the instructions for using an anti-gel additive.
Accurate dosing and thorough mixing of the anti-gel additive are essential for better cold resistance. In some cases, overdosing can reduce cold resistance and must be avoided. Follow the manufacturer's dosing instructions.
Add the additive to the diesel before the fuel's flow properties become insufficient. Otherwise, the only way to eliminate the faults would be to heat the entire fuel system, for example by placing the vehicle in a heated garage.
For more information on recommended anti-gel additives, contact a qualified workshop.
Notes on fuel consumption
Environmental protectionCO2 (carbon dioxide) is a gas which, based on current knowledge, is the main contributor to global warming (greenhouse effect). Vehicle CO2 emissions depend directly on fuel consumption and therefore on
- engine efficiency
- your driving style
- other factors not related to the vehicle's technology, such as environmental conditions and road conditions
By adopting a moderate driving style and having your vehicle maintained regularly, you can help reduce CO2 emissions.
Fuel consumption is higher than normal
- when outside temperatures are very low
- in town traffic
- on short trips
- in mountainous areas
- when towing a trailer
The stated consumption values were determined in their current version in accordance with
- EU Directive 80/1268/EEC (vehicles complying with the EURO 4 emission standard or earlier standards)
- Regulation (EC) No. 715/2007 (vehicles from the EURO 5 emission standard onward)
In practice, these values may differ.
